State employees would get pay hike in Republican budget

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Republican lawmakers unveiled their Kentucky state budget today, with state employees, parks and schools seeing funding increases.

State employees will receive a pay raise of at least 8 percent in the first year of the budget. Enough money is being set aside for a 12 percent raise next year, although exact amounts will be determined by a Personnel Cabinet study.

The budget also funds renovations to state parks, increases per-pupil funding to schools, and pays for the cost of full-day kindergarten.

The budget could get a final vote and be sent to the governor by tomorrow.
