ABINGDON, Va. — On the same day her husband pleaded guilty to charges related to a $182,000 unemployment scam, a Wise County woman also reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on the same charges.

Brittany McReynolds, 32, of Saint Paul, agreed on Thursday to plead guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and defraud the U.S. government. Her husband — 34-year-old Travis Kilgore — pleaded guilty Thursday in Abingdon federal court to those same charges.

Kilgore admitted that he and his wife first filed for unemployment benefits they were not entitled to last year, then helped at least 21 other people also file for fraudulent benefits, in exchange for payment in either cash or drugs.

Kilgore will be sentenced July 15.
