Traffic stop leads to two arrests for meth trafficking

PHELPS, Ky. — A traffic stop on Wednesday resulted in two people being arrested for meth trafficking.
Around 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, a state trooper spotted a vehicle make several traffic violations along Route 194 at Phelps and pulled it over.

When the officer went to speak with the occupants, he noticed the passenger, Hattie Duty, 47, of Phelps, allegedly had an open container of alcohol.

During questioning, the driver, Ira New, 59, of Freeburn, reportedly handed over a bag containing powder and pills.

A search of the car then turned up about 50 grams of meth, a set of scales, a small handgun and a glass pipe.

New and Duty were arrested for meth trafficking and other charges.
