Truck driver charged after fathering child with 13-year-old

David Kyle Skaggs

BIG STONE GAP, Va. — A Missouri truck driver has been indicted in federal court for coercing a 13-year-old southwestern Virginia girl into sexual activity.

According to court records, David Kyle Skaggs, 32, of Bonne Terre, Mo., would routinely stay with a Lee County woman while he was passing through the area.

During the summer of 2015, he reportedly offered to take the woman’s daughter and her 15-year-old brother with him on a road trip in his truck.

Investigators say during that trip, Skaggs gave the children alcohol at a South Dakota truck stop, then raped the girl while her brother slept. The girl became pregnant and a DNA test confirmed Skaggs was the father.

The girl also told investigators that she had discovered Skaggs had been communicating with a 10-year-old Florida girl, and she wrote to warn her, but the Florida girl reportedly told her he had done the same to her.

Skaggs was arrested in Illinois in November and was recently extradited to Virginia.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on the charge Jan. 5.
