ABINGDON, Va. — An Illinois truck driver has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, after pleading guilty to transporting a minor across state lines for criminal sexual activity.

David Kyle Skaggs, 33, was sentenced in federal court in Abingdon on Thursday.

Court records indicate he would routinely stay at the home of a Lee County woman while passing through the area while working. In August of 2015, he offered to take the woman’s 15-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter with him on a route to South Dakota.

While at a truck stop, he bought the children alcohol. Court records say when the boy fell asleep, he then raped the girl, who became pregnant. A DNA test later confirmed the baby was his.

Skaggs pleaded guilty in July, but the following month he asked to withdraw his guilty plea, saying he felt pressured to accept the plea agreement. A judge later denied that request.
