
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Two Pike County men spent Christmas in jail, after a shoplifting complaint led to their arrest on drug trafficking charges.
Police were called to Walmart Friday over a report that a man was taking items from the store and putting them in the pickup truck parked on the sidewalk.
When police arrived, they found one man in the truck and another outside. During their investigation, they found meth, heroin, scales, a loaded gun and a large amount of cash.
James Phillips, 47, of Elkhorn City, and Justin Varney, 38, of Pikeville, were arrested drug trafficking and other charges, as well as outstanding warrants. Both men remain continue to be held in the Pike County Detention Center.
