MILLARD, Ky. — Millard Fire & Rescue is mourning the loss of one of its longest-serving members.

Willie Runyon, 90, who served as deputy fire chief with the department, died on Wednesday. A veteran of the Korean War, Runyon was a co-founder of the department in 1972 and continued to serve it for more than half a century.

Earlier this year, he and Chief Glen Adkins were recognized for 50 years of service to the department, and the Millard Bridge was renamed the Willie Runyon/Glen Adkins Bridge by the Pike County Fiscal Court.

Arrangements for Willie Runyon are still pending.
