PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Perry County woman was arrested for drug trafficking in Pikeville, after a traffic stop resulted in the discovery of heroin and pills.
Pikeville Police pulled over a vehicle that had been observed weaving on U.S. 23. When the officer approached the car, he spotted a glass pipe in the passenger seat and noted that the driver, identified as Natasha Griffie, 35, of Hazard, had glassy eyes, slurred speech and slow movements.
Griffie failed a field sobriety test and was placed under arrest. A search of her car then turned up a bag of heroin and a bottle of Neurontin.
She was taken to the hospital to be cleared, when she asked the officer to loosen her handcuffs so she could retrieve another bag of heroin from a body cavity. A jail guard later retrieved the bag from the body cavity, during which Griffie reportedly said, “I promise, this won’t hurt you.”
Griffie is now charged with trafficking in heroin and Neurontin, along with DUI and a number of traffic violations.
