Power outages grow, as winter storm continues

Snow and ice began taking their toll Sunday morning, resulting in power outages around the region.

As of 10:30 a.m., Kentucky Power was reporting more than 2,600 customers without power. That number was up more than 2,000 from earlier in the day.

Perry County had the most, with 852 customers without power, followed by Lawrence County with 573, and 531 in Pike.

Appalachian Power was reporting more than 15,000 customers without power, including more than 8,000 in West Virginia and nearly 7,000 in Virginia.

Licking Valley RECC was reporting 779 customers without power at 10:30 a.m., with the bulk of those being in Breathitt County, with 525, and Morgan County, with 244.

Big Sandy RECC only had 61 customers without power, down from more than 400 earlier in the day.
