LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Breathitt County man has pleaded guilty to federal charges after holding state troopers at gunpoint in his marijuana patch.
Kevin Combs, 32, of Lost Creek, pleaded guilty to cultivating more that 51 marijuana plants and brandishing a firearm in relation to a drug trafficking crime. He admitted to growing 51 marijuana plants, mostly interspersed in his tomato garden.
When police were tipped to the operation and went to investigate, Combs confronted them with a loaded .45 caliber handgun. Once he was convinced to lower his weapon, he then attempted to run away, but was caught.
Combs now faces up to 20 years for the marijuana charge, and at least an additional seven years for the gun charge.
He will be sentenced on January 5th.
