Store manager accused of embezzlement

STANVILLE, Ky. — The manager of a Floyd County gas station was arrested yesterday, after being accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the store.

Nancy Powell, of Banner, was arrested just after 6:30 p.m. Monday. Court documents allege she failed to deposit more than $117,000 in cash that was collected from her shifts at the Cardinal Country Store in Stanville between May 19 and June 5.

When police questioned her about the missing money, she reportedly told them that she has a gambling problem and spent all of the money to settle her debts.

Powell now faces between five and 10 years in prison if she is convicted. She is set to appear in court June 17.
