WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Two Williamson firefighters were injured after a previously burned building collapsed while they were responding to a re-ignition.

The incident occurred at 68 West Fourth Street, which was destroyed by fire on Wednesday. A flare-up in the remains of the building was reported early Sunday morning and the department responded at 5:15 a.m.

According to a Facebook post by the City of Williamson, two firefighters were injured when the front of the building collapsed on them. The city did not identify the firefighters, but did say one was more seriously injured than the other.

Several pieces of equipment, including a firetruck, were also damaged in the collapse.

The city is asking the public to avoid the area today, as cleanup is expected to last throughout the day.
