Aaron Rounds, 44, of Garrett, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of first-degree official misconduct and fourth-degree assault. Both of the charges are misdemeanors, meaning the most jail time he could receive if found guilty is one year.

The incident involves the assault of an inmate on Jan. 13. According to a copy of the arrest warrant, Rounds allegedly struck an inmate several times with his fist and a weapon, causing minor injury.

Jailer Steve Little tells Mountain Top News that he became aware of the incident and turned it over to Floyd County Attorney Keith Bartley and the Prestonsburg Police Department.

“I made a promise to the people that I would keep the jail safe, secure and clean, and I felt in order to do that I needed to to turn it over to them,” Little said.

Because of his connection to the Floyd County jail, Rounds was booked in the Pike County Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation by Prestonsburg Police Det. Dennis Hutchinson.
