ABINGDON, Va. — A Wise County man has been sentenced to more than 16 years in prison, after he was found with drugs and guns following a crash.

Malcolm Pinkston, 31, of Big Stone Gap, was found with 48 grams of fentanyl and two handguns, after he crashed his car on U.S. 23 at Duffield. He pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime back in December.

In federal court on Wednesday, Pinkston was sentenced to a total of 15 years in prison for those charges. However, the judge tacked on an additional 15 months to that sentence, because he was still under supervision after pleading guilty to an oxycodone distribution conspiracy back in 2012.

He remains in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, at Abingdon, awaiting transfer to the federal prison system.
