Police were called Thursday to a domestic assault complaint at Highlands ARH. There, the woman told them that her husband — James Chadrick Burchett, 41, of Ivel — had held her prisoner and assaulted her.

The woman said Burchett accused her of cheating on him and believed she had other men hidden in their apartment. She said he hit her, held a knife to her throat, and choked her until she lost consciousness. She also said he screwed the doors shut to keep her from leaving and threatened to kill her.

The woman said she was finally able to escape after 11 hours.

The police report noted the woman had visible bruises on her throat, legs, hand, arm, thigh, shoulder and eye.

Burchett was arrested that night and charged with second-degree assault, first-degree strangulation and first-degree unlawful imprisonment. The assault and strangulation charges are Class C felonies, punishable by 5-to-10 years in prison.

Burchett is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
