KSP investigates after suspect shot in Letcher County

JEREMIAH, Ky. — Kentucky State Police is investigating, following an officer-involved shooting in Letcher County over the weekend.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a state trooper and a sheriff’s deputy responded to a report of a domestic dispute involving gunfire at a home along Route 160.

Police say when Julian Smith, 25, of Jeremiah, saw the officers approach, he fled into a nearby forest and brandished a pistol. The officers responded by shooting him.

The officers provided first aid to Smith until EMS arrived, and he was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center. He remains in stable condition.

The officers were not injured.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team continues to investigate.
