GEORGETOWN, Ky. A Prestonsburg man who was arrested in Georgetown on a warrant accusing him of trying to sneak drugs to Floyd County inmates, found more trouble for himself when guards allegedly found him sneaking more drugs into the jail.

Joseph Ryan Hammonds, 41, is accused of trying to deliver fentanyl to inmates in the Floyd County Detention Center back in March by putting fentanyl into a potato chip bag and leaving it where it could be found by a jail cleanup crew working along Route 680 at Harold.

He was also wanted for violating his parole following a conviction in a 2021 case for meth and heroin trafficking.

Scott County sheriff’s deputies arrested Hammonds at a motel in Georgetown on Monday. On the way to the Scott County jail, he was warned against trying to sneak anything into the facility. But a strip search at the jail turned up five bags containing 4 ounces of meth and fentanyl hidden in his groin.

Hammonds now faces a charge of fentanyl trafficking in Floyd County, as well as meth and fentanyl trafficking and promoting contraband in Scott County. He is currently being held in the Scott County Detention Center.
