PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A former Floyd County deputy jailer will be spending a month behind bars, after being convicted of misdemeanor charges.
Aaron Rounds, 45, of Garrett, was charged with official misconduct and fourth-degree assault. He was arrested back in January after being accused of beating an inmate with his fist and a weapon.
He entered an Alford plea to the charges and was sentenced on Thursday. Under an Alford plea, a defendant maintains his innocence but concedes that the evidence in the case would likely result in a conviction. In all other respects, it functions essentially as a guilty plea.
Rounds was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but 150 days of that sentence were suspended, leaving him with 30 days to serve.
The case was investigated by Prestonsburg Police Det. Dennis Hutchinson.
