Georgia man admits selling meth, heroin in Eastern Kentucky

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Georgia man has admitted to regularly traveling to Eastern Kentucky to sell meth and heroin, after pleading guilty to federal drug and gun charges.

Dennis Arnold “Dino” Lyons, 35, of Rex, Ga., pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession of meth and heroin with the intent to distribute and possession of a gun in a drug crime in U.S. District Court in Pikeville.

In his plea agreement, he admitted that he would regularly travel from Georgia to sell meth and heroin in places like Knott and Powell counties. On three occasions in November, he sold more than 100 grams to an undercover informant, as well as 2 grams of heroin on one of those occasions.

In December, he was pulled over in Perry County, at which time police found more than 4 lbs. of meth and nearly half a pound of heroin hidden in a spare tire, as well as two loaded guns in the center console.

Lyons now faces between 10 years and life in prison for the drug charge. He also faces between five years and life in prison for the gun charge, which must be served in addition to his sentence for the drug charge.

Lyons is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center. He will be sentenced Aug. 7.
