Jenkins hires new boys’ basketball coach

JENKINS, Ky. – 14th Region champion, Danny Bates, has been named the new head coach of the Jenkins Independent boys’ basketball team.

Bates brings in years of coaching experience with the resume to back it up. He has coached high level basketball everywhere he has been – winning multiple middle school championships, over 20 AAU championships, a 14th Region Tournament Championship, 14th Region All “A” Championship, and 14th Region Coach of the Year. He has also coached in the KHSAA Tournament Elite 8 and the 14th Region All “A” Final Four.

Cavalier fans have a lot to be excited for with Coach Bates at the helm; his veteran leadership is exactly what their program needs with the departure of former head coach Winston Lee after a very impressive 2025 season. Jenkins made the right hire if they want to continue to have success in the postseason after winning their first district title since 1995. The Cavs will be a team to keep your eye on heading into the 2026 season as they transition into their new era.
