PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Knott County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for federal drug and weapons charges.
Gary Amburgey, 47, of Hindman, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute meth and using a firearm in furtherance of a drug crime 15 months ago. In exchange for his plea, a charge of felon in possession of a firearm was dismissed.
He admitted obtaining five ounces of meth in order to distribute it in late 2018 and early 2019.
Amburgey had faced a potential life sentence, but instead received five years on each charge, to run consecutively.
He is now being held in the Pike County Detention Center, awaiting transfer to the federal prison system.
