Lady Jaguars Hold Off Pikeville for 44-36 Win

The Floyd Central Lady Jaguars pulled out a 44-36 win over the Pikeville Lady Panthers on Saturday, continuing their strong season.

Floyd Central had three players in double figures. Maddy Engle led the way with 15 points, Reagan Laferty added 12, and Jaylin Blanton chipped in 11. Blanton also led the team in rebounds with eight.

Engle now has 275 points on the season, Laferty has 218, and Blanton sits at 104. On the night, Engle shot 36.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc, and was 6 for 8 from the free throw line. Laferty shot 26.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from long range, and was perfect from the line, while Blanton hit 40 percent from the field and 3 of 4 from the line.

As a team, the Lady Jaguars shot 28.6 percent from the field, 21.4 percent from three-point range, and 68.4 percent from the line, pulling down 29 rebounds overall. Individual stats for Pikeville were not available at press time.

The win improves Floyd Central to 13-4, impressive for a young squad made up mostly of sophomores. The Lady Jaguars will be back in action Tuesday, Jan. 20 when they host Paintsville at 7 p.m. Pikeville, now 12-4, will compete in the Kentucky All “A” Classic Statewide Tournament against Danville Christian on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m.
