PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A tip from an informant resulted in Pikeville Police arresting two Louisville men believed to be bringing pounds of meth to Pike County.
The informant told police Andrew Billingslea, 33, would be bringing meth to Pikeville early Sunday morning.
Acting on the information, officers patrolling U.S. 23 spotted two cars traveling toward Pikeville at a slow rate of speed. Police say drugs are often transported using multiple cars in what is known “trail car” pattern in order to evade detection by police.
When the vehicles stopped at a gas station, police moved in, detaining Billingslea and the other driver, Jonathan Jones, 35. A police dog alerted to the presence of drugs in both vehicles.
Police ultimately found 3.2 lbs. of meth and seized three phones and one of the cars, as the other was a rental.
Billingslea and Jones were arrested and charged with first-degree meth trafficking. They are being held in the Pike County Detention Center on $25,000 bonds.
