PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A man with a long history on writing forged checks across the state has been arrested for that same charge in Floyd County.

Randall Gene Hollifield, 52, of Teaberry, was arrested Monday by Kentucky State Police on five counts of possession of a forged instrument. He is accused of cashing five stolen checks for a total of $1,900 back in December.
Hollifield has a long history of similar conduct, having been convicted of at least 75 counts of possession of a forged instrument, writing cold checks and fraudulent use of a credit card in Pike, Boyle, Clark and Fayette counties over the past 25 years.
In 2002, he made headlines for trying to place his own obituary in The Floyd County Times, which officials at the time said was an attempt to get out of paying debt. The ruse was only discovered because he had listed the date of his death for after the newspaper went to press.
The latest charges are a felony, carrying a potential sentence of 5-to-10 years in prison.
Hollifield is scheduled to appear in Floyd District Court for arraignment and a preliminary hearing next Wednesday.
