NORTON, Va. — A Norton man has been arrested on a murder charge, after a woman’s body was found Saturday.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office was called to a report of an unresponsive woman at a home on Petrey Street, in Norton.

A 61-year-old woman was found and transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Sheriff’s deputies noted the death appeared suspicious, due to a number of traumatic injuries to the woman’s body.

After investigating, they arrested Danny Sturgill, 60, of Petrey Street. Sturgill has been charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding. He is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail, at Duffield.
