PAINTSVILLE, Ky. — A Johnson County man is in jail after leading police on a chase through several counties, at speeds well over 100 miles an hour.
Johnson County deputies attempted to pull over a motorcycle ridden by William Hicks, 40, of Sitka, for having no visible license plate. Police say Hicks sped away instead, beginning a chase that went into Magoffin County, then back to Paintsville and onto U.S. 23 toward Floyd County, before making a U-turn and heading back north into Lawrence County.
During the chase, police say Hicks reached speeds of up to 133 miles an hour, and weaved into and out of traffic and even onto the shoulder without regard to other motorists.
Hicks eventually came to a stop and was placed under arrest. Police then found meth and suboxone in his motorcycle.
They also learned there was a warrant for his arrest after he was indicted for fleeing police on a motorcycle last year.
Hicks is being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, in Paintsville, for fleeing police, wanton endangerment and several other charges.
