Man paroled for attempted murder back in jail

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A Magoffin County man released from prison in January after serving less than seven years of a 20-year sentence for attempted murder is back behind bars — this time for threatening to kill the Morgan County Attorney, among other things.

Colonel Lewis Bolen

On Friday, a Goat Mountain resident reported Colonel Lewis Bolen, 51, of Salyersville, had come to her house twice, would sit in her living room and not leave. While he was there, he allegedly kept asking for someone who had a handgun to sell, saying he had cash to buy one. He also allegedly said he was going to kill Morgan County Attorney Myles Holbrook, who he said needed to die, and that he was also going to burn Holbrook’s house down.

Bolen also faces charges in Knott County from an incident there on Thursday. In that case, he is accused of pinning a man against a car and repeatedly slamming a car door into him. He then allegedly picked up a tree branch and threatened to kill the man, his wife and his grandchildren.

Bolen is charged with trespassing, terroristic threatening and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the Magoffin County incident. He is charged with fourth-degree assault and terroristic threatening in Knott County.

Bolen was convicted in 2013 on numerous charges of attempted murder, after firing a gun at several people in 2011, striking three of them. He was paroled Jan. 19.

Holbrook initially represented Bolen in the attempted murder case, until Bolen asked for another attorney.

He remains lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
