Man to plead guilty in SW Va. fentanyl conspiracy

BIG STONE GAP, Va. — A defendant in a scheme to distribute more than 25 lbs. of fentanyl in southwestern Virginia has agreed to enter a guilty plea to drug and gun charges.

Roberto Contreras, 23, has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and using a firearm in a drug crime.

The conspiracy was discovered after two people, including one juvenile, overdosed on the drug. Both later recovered.

At least six other people have also pleaded guilty to charges related to the conspiracy.

Contreras now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and could be imprisoned for life.
He is due in court Nov. 14th to officially enter his plea.
