McDowell dentist pleads guilty to fraud

Denver Tackett

FRANKFORT, Ky. — A Floyd County dentist faces up to 10 years in prison, after pleading guilty to health care fraud on Tuesday.

Denver Tackett, 66, of McDowell entered the plea in U.S. District Court in Frankfort. He admitted to billing the Kentucky Medicaid Program for $95,000 in false and unnecessary procedures.

As part of his plea agreement, Tackett agreed to forfeit $20,000 seized by authorities, and to pay restitution of at least $70,000. He also agreed to forfeit his DEA registration, which allows him to prescribe medications.

Tackett will be sentenced in December.
