
BELFRY, Ky. — A Mingo County man was taken to the Pike County jail, following a shooting at Turkey Creek just before midnight, Wednesday night.
Kentucky State Police received a report of a man who was being taken to the hospital after being shot in the leg. When police spoke to the victim, he told them he was shot by Dakota Lester, 25, of Baisden, during an argument about Lester’s ex-girlfriend.
The ex-girlfriend also told police that Lester sent her a message beforehand, saying he was going to put the man in the hospital.
Lester turned himself in to police around 3 a.m. Thursday. He has been charged with first-degree assault, which is a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.
