Perry sheriff investigating fatal ATV crash

UPDATE, 2 p.m.: Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle has released more information about a deadly ATV crash last night in Vicco.

Engle said the crash happened around 9 p.m. Saturday night. The sheriff said two juvenile girls and two adult men were riding on an ATV near Oakwood Avenue. One of the girls was driving and lost control of the vehicle, going over an embankment.

the other girl who was a passenger in the vehicle was killed in the crash. One of the men who was also a passenger sustained serious injuries and was flown out to a trauma center for a treatment.

Engle said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The driver has been charged. with driving under the influence and a search warrant was obtained for a blood sample. Engle said those results would not be back for a month or so.

The sheriff also said his office is investigating how the alcohol was obtained.

The identities of those involved has not been released at this time. However, Perry County Central High School release a statement, noting that the victim was a student at that school.

The school said a counselor will be available at the school Monday morning as a resource for students and staff.

The case remains under investigation.


VICCO, Ky. — The Perry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an ATV crash Saturday night at Vicco.

The sheriff’s office reported the incident just before 11:30 p.m. and said one person had been killed. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.

The sheriff’s office said more information about the crash could be released as soon as today.
