PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville doctor and a nurse have been indicted in federal court on charges they conspired to improperly provide drugs to patients.
Dr. Crystal Compton and Kayla Lambert were named in a 50-count indictment on Thursday. Dr. Compton is based in Pikeville and has been affiliated with Eastern Kentucky Medical Group, Betsy Layne Primary Care and The Good Doctor, while Lambert was a registered nurse working in her practices.
Both are charged with conspiracy to unlawfully distribute drugs and conspiracy to use the DEA registration of another person. Lambert is also charged with four counts of actually using the DEA registration, while Dr. Compton is accused of 44 counts of unlawfully distributing drugs such as hydrocodone, oxycodone and methadone.
The DEA violations carry potential sentences of up to four years in prison, while the drug distribution charges have maximum sentences that vary from five years to 20 years, depending on the type of drug involved.
Prosecutors are also seeking to have the pair forfeit their licenses, as well as money in an amount equal to their gross proceeds from the alleged crimes.
