Pike man accused of beating girlfriend with board, crowbar

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man was arrested on a felony assault charge, after being accused of severely beating his girlfriend on two occasions.

John Collins, 25, of Red Creek Road, was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a charge of second-degree assault.



He is accused of beating his girlfriend with a 2-by-4 piece of lumber and a crowbar on Aug. 23 and again on Aug. 26. The arrest warrant notes that the victim sustained cuts, scratches, large bruises and two black eyes.

Second-degree assault carries a potential sentence of 5-to-10 years in prison if he is convicted.

Collins is currently being held in the Pike County Detention Center.
