PIKEVILLE, Ky. — State troopers spent more than an hour in the early morning chill hunting for a suspect who got away from them.

The officers were in Indian Creek early Monday morning on the hunt for a gray passenger car that had been involved in a complaint they were investigating. When one of the officers spotted the car and tried to pull it over around 1 a.m., the driver — identified as Eric Newsome, 34, of Virgie — allegedly sped away onto Route 122 toward Virgie.

The car continued onto Route 610 and then onto Monkey Town Road, where Newsome got out and allegedly ran away. He was found sometime later walking along Penny Highway and reportedly jumped into a creek in an attempt to get away. He was stopped with a taser.

Newsome is now charged with fleeing police on foot and in a car, resisting arrest, and several traffic violations. He was also wanted on 10 warrants out of Pike County.
