LOOKOUT, Ky. — A Pike County man is in jail, after leading police on a chase Wednesday night.

A state trooper was stopped along Route 611 when he witnessed John Crider, 33, of Elkhorn City, allegedly run through a stop sign at a high rate of speed and proceed onto US 23 toward Dorton. The officer attempted to pull him over, but reported that the sped away instead, reaching speeds of up to 90 miles an hour.

At one point, Crider made a U-turn in the highway and proceeded back to Route 611. The pursuit continued to Lookout, where the vehicle ran off the road and struck several trees and a mailbox before coming to a stop. Crider was arrested while trying to crawl into the trunk of the car.

He later told the officer he didn’t know why he fled, but reportedly admitted to using crystal meth earlier in the day.

He now faces a felony count of fleeing police along with numerous other charges.
