State troopers were called just before 10 p.m. Wednesday to a report that a car had hit someone on a bicycle on U.S. 460 and then left. The victim, who has been identified as Eric Deshaun Justice, 31, of Shelbiana, died of his injuries at the scene.

A witness was able to get the vehicle’s license plate number, and police traced it to a 2013 Ford Edge owned by Clinton Wayne Justice, 68, of Chloe Road.

When police found him at his home around 11 p.m., the arrest report notes he was moving and speaking slowly, had drooping eyelids, and had difficulty understanding or following simple instructions.

He was arrested and taken to the hospital for a blood test, when he told police he wanted to contact an attorney. The police report notes he called his girlfriend instead and spoke with her for 17 minutes. When he was told his time was up, he told police he would not consent to a blood test, so they got a search warrant for the test instead.

Clinton Justice has been charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence, and leaving the scene of an accident.

An online fundraiser has been established to cover the funeral expenses for Eric Justice. You can find it at https://www.gofundme.com/f/funeral-and-burial-cost-of-eric-deshaun-justice.
