Pikeville receives grants from League of Cities

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — The city of Pikeville has received a pair of grants from the Kentucky League of Cities.

The city received a Safety Grant and a Cybersecurity Preparedness Grant. The Safety Grant is awarded by KLC Insurance to fund various programs and services to reduce liability. The cybersecurity grant is a new offering to help members implement additional safety protocols and programs.

“Cities face unique challenges in protecting the data they collect,” KLC President and Versailles Mayor Brian Traugott said. “As an advocate for city governments and an insurance provider for cities and organizations that serve them, KLC has a great interest in seeing that every city has basic protection. The KLC Cybersecurity Preparedness Grant program will help our insurance members put systems in place to keep their sensitive data safe.”

Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter says the grants will have a positive impact.

“The City of Pikeville is very appreciative of the cybersecurity and safety grants from the Kentucky League of Cities, which is a tremendously beneficial resource for cities across the state,” Carter said. “The cybersecurity grant funds are being used to conduct a threat analysis, identify weaknesses, and correct those weaknesses. The safety grant funds will be used to purchase confined space rescue equipment. We take great pride in ensuring the security and safety of our citizens and being able to respond to any emergency. These funds are being used to ensure that we have the resources and equipment necessary to serve our residents and visitors.”

KLC Insurance Services is Kentucky’s largest municipal insurance provider. The agency helps members increase public safety with proactive programs and services. KLC Insurance also provides a full range of affordable liability, property, workers’ compensation, and other municipal insurance products.

In addition to insurance, the Kentucky League of Cities offers employee benefits programs, legislative advocacy, financial and municipal law services, training, community development, and other resources that serve cities.
