Police say murder suspect shot into car with 8-year-old girl inside

NEWTOWN, W.Va. — A Mingo County man has been charged with murder, following a shooting on Thursday.

According to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office, Heath Rose, 50, of Gilbert, got into an argument with Joda Browning, of Gilbert Creek, at Crestwood Apartments, in Newtown. During the argument, Browning reportedly shoved Rose, then got into his car to leave, with a woman and her 8-year-old daughter as passengers.

Rose allegedly went to his car and grabbed a 9 mm pistol. As Browning tried to leave the parking lot, Rose allegedly stuck the gun into the car window and shot Browning in the face.

Browning died at the scene.



Rose was arrested later and charged with first-degree murder and two counts of wanton endangerment.
He is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail, at Holden.
