LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) recognized Pikeville Deputy City Manager Bradley Slone as the 2024 KLC City Employee of the Year. KLC and award sponsor Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP surprised Slone with the award at a Friday morning ceremony during the KLC Conference & Expo in Lexington. Slone’s dedication to his community and exceptional leadership during a time of transition were among the reasons a panel of judges selected him for the prestigious recognition. He served as interim city manager in 2023 while maintaining his responsibilities as deputy city manager.
City employees and elected officials praised Slone for ensuring a seamless transition. They described his leadership as compassionate, kind, and effective, with many noting that the city “did not miss a beat” during the period of change.
Since joining the City of Pikeville in 2017, Slone has been instrumental in the management and execution of several key projects. These include the recent construction of a new fire station, a pilot program for license plate reading video cameras, significant updates to the city’s website, and the development of a downtown economic incentive plan. Under his tenure, Pikeville has also become a Gigabit City, developed a pedestrian tunnel and bikeways project, and provided ADA-compliant playground equipment for disabled children.
The many people supporting his nomination highlighted Slone’s professionalism, integrity, and commitment to ethical practices. “Brad leads with compassion and kindness, and his dedication to doing things right is evident in everything he does,” stated his nomination form. His contributions extend beyond his professional role, as he is also an active community volunteer and the author of “Pikeville: Images of America.”
KLC Executive Director/CEO J.D. Chaney expressed his admiration for Slone’s work, stating, “Bradley Slone exemplifies the very best of public service. His leadership during a challenging time for Pikeville and his ongoing contributions to the city’s growth and development make him truly deserving of this honor. We are proud to recognize his achievements and commitment to making Pikeville a better place for everyone who depends on the city.”

The KLC City Employee of the Year award is presented annually to an individual who demonstrates outstanding public service, leadership qualities, and positive influence.
