WISE COUNTY, VA.– A hostage situation in Wise County was resolved peacefully Saturday, with a little help from a robot. The Wise County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police responded to a report that a woman was being held against her will at a residence in Big Stone Gap. After attempting to make contact for four-and-a-half hours, a tactical team breached the back door and sent in a SWAT robot. The woman was released shortly afterward, and 20 minutes later 69-year-old David Ray Ball surrendered to authorities. Ball was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice. The incident is still being investigated by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office.
