CARRIE, Ky. — A state trooper and a suspect were both injured in a shootout in Knott County over the weekend.
Police were called around 4:30 a.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle stolen from a home in the community of Carrie. When they went to the scene, they spotted the vehicle and pulled it over.
Police say the driver then began firing a gun at police, hitting one officer. Another trooper returned fire and hit the driver, who then surrendered.
The injured trooper was taken to Hazard ARH, where he was treated and released.
The suspect was also taken to Hazard ARH, but he has since been transferred to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, where he remains in intensive care.
Kentucky State Police is not releasing some specific information about the incident, including the identities of those involved, while the investigation continues.
