PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Two people were arrested in Pikeville Wednesday afternoon, after a traffic stop for a seat belt violation led to the discovery of drugs, a gun and a woman who had been stabbed in the arm.

After pulling over the car, the officer noticed the driver had a blood-soaked t-shirt wrapped around her arm. She told police she had been stabbed during an altercation at an apartment on Wolford Street.

Officers soon found the man who she said stabbed her, 26-year-old William Williams. He reportedly told police that the victim tried to hit him while he was holding a knife, and that might be how she was cut. He also told police he got scared and threw the knife in the Pikeville Pond.

Williams was charged with second-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.

Back at the traffic stop, officers noticed a passenger in the back seat — identified as Charles Blankenship, 26, of Varney — attempting to hide something, and soon found meth in the floor under his feet and a gun under his leg.

Blankenship was charged with meth possession and felon in possession of a handgun.
