WISE, Va. — A Wise County man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison, after he was found with multiple explosive devices inside his home.

Jordan Patrick Adams, 38, of Coeburn, pleaded guilty back in November to possession of an unregistered destructive device and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court records, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that Adams had explosive devices and booby traps inside his home. A subsequent search by the sheriff’s office and Virginia State Police Bomb Squad found three pipe bombs and a blasting cap inside a prescription bottle filled with shotgun pellets.

In an interview with the ATF later, Adams admitted to building the pipe bombs himself, using blackpowder and explosives and fuses from fireworks.

In federal court last week, he was sentenced to 69 months in prison. Adams was taken into custody immediately after the sentencing hearing.
