PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Martin County woman has been indicted over allegations that she submitted invoices for providing caregiver services to her dead mother.

Janet Meade, 77, of Debord, is charged with one count of theft by deception in Floyd Circuit Court.

She is accused of billing Big Sandy Area Development District for the care of her mother from October of 2019 to February of this year. Her mother died in October of 2019.

The indictment does not indicate the amount of money involved in those invoices, except that it was more than $10,000.

Meade was indicted back in June but was not arrested until this week. She has now been released from jail on an unsecured $50,000 bond. She is due back in court Nov. 8 for arraignment.
