Driver nearly hits officer, gets arrested for stolen gun

Shawn Lewis

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A missed stop sign ended up sending a Pikeville man to jail on felony charges.

A Pikeville Police officer was patrolling on Hambley Boulevard, when he says a car ran a stop sign directly in front of him, forcing him to hit the brakes to avoid a crash.

The officer then pulled over the driver, 34-year-old Shawn Lewis, who he said appeared to be under the influence.

Inside the car, the officer found brass knuckles and a handgun, even though Lewis has a previous felony conviction. The gun also had been reported stolen.

Lewis was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, felon in possession of a handgun, DUI, and several other charges.
