MAJESTIC, Ky. — A father and daughter staying in Pike County have been charged with elder abuse, after a man reported that his mother was being mistreated.
The man reported that his mother had suffered a stroke and was supposed to be under the care of Robert Eugene Kelley, 70, and Alyssa Gail Kelley, 21. The man further said the Kelleys had moved his mother from Ohio to Kentucky, and the last he had heard from her, she had open leg wounds with maggots growing in them.
When sheriff’s deputies went to the home on Route 194 at Majestic where she was staying, they immediately noticed the smell of raw sewage coming from under the home as they approached. When Robert Kelley opened the door, they saw roaches inside and also detected a strong smell of body odor inside the home.
When the deputies went to talk to the woman, they saw she had sores on both legs, with a large open sore on her left leg that was infected and had bugs crawling in it. Her right leg was bandaged with bugs crawling out from under the bandages, and the bed sheets also had bloodstains from her bug bites.
The woman said she wanted out of the house because she was afraid she would die there. She told the deputies that the Kelleys would cover her with a sheet to keep bedbugs, roaches and other bugs from crawling on her while she slept.
At one point, the police report notes that Robert Kelley looked at the woman and said, “I’m hope you’re very happy now.”
The Kelleys were both arrested and charged with abuse or neglect of an adult. That charge is a felony, punishable by 1-to-5 years in prison.
