Flags ordered at half-staff after soldier’s remains identified

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear today ordered flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff, in honor of a Corbin soldier whose remains were recently identified.

Cpl. Billie Joe Hash served in the Army during the Korean War and died in December 1950, during a battle near the Chosin River. His remains were only recently identified, after North Korean authorities turned over 55 boxes of remains two years ago.

“We are all glad to have our Kentucky soldier home again, and closure for his family,” said Gov. Beshear. “Lowering the flag to honor his service and sacrifice is a tangible symbol of our respect and compassion for all veterans and their families.”

All individuals, businesses, organizations, and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute of lowering the flag to honor Cpl. Hash.
