Jones declares state of emergency in response to winter storm

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Pike County Judge-Executive Ray Jones has declared a state of emergency in response to this week’s winter weather.

In his declaration, Jones notes that this week’s rounds of snow, which are expected to be followed by bitterly cold temperatures have created hazardous conditions, especially in regard to travel.

The emergency declaration places the county’s response to the winter storm in the hands of Pike County Emergency Management and orders all county offices to cooperate as much as possible. It also streamlines many of the normal procedures to make for a faster response and paves the way for state assistance, if it is available.
