PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A jury found a Floyd County man with an extensive criminal history guilty of escape Tuesday, recommending he serve a sentence of 15 years.
In February 2017, Toby Akers, 46, of Martin, was arrested in a drug trafficking case. He was later released from jail and ordered into home incarceration while awaiting trial.
In reaching a guilty verdict, the jury found he cut off his ankle monitor and left his residence in July of 2017.
Days later, he was charged with assault for allegedly shooting a man at Grethel. That case remains pending.
He was hiding in a hotel bathroom when he was arrested by Paintsville Police the following month, when he was found with more than 2 lbs. of meth. He was found guilty of meth trafficking in that case and sentenced to five years in prison.
