Kentucky reports record-high positivity rate

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The omicron variant of the coronavirus is living up to reports of its increased transmissibility, as Kentucky reported a new record positivity rate.

Gov. Andy Beshear reported a positivity rate of nearly 14.5 percent on Wednesday.

The previous high was under 14.2 percent back in September, during the height of the delta variant surge.

The governor also reported more than 5,500 new cases and 21 deaths on Wednesday.

Beshear urged Kentuckians to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated and boosted.
